Meet our Therapy Dogs
“Dogs are better than human beings because they know but do not tell.”
-Emily Dickinson
Mochi
In our outpatient mental health clinic, we are proud to feature two certified therapy dogs who play a vital role in supporting our clients' emotional well-being. Mochi and August, both Golden Retrievers, are specially trained to provide comfort, companionship, and encouragement during therapy sessions.
With a calm demeanor and a friendly disposition, Mochi and August help create a safe and welcoming environment. The presence of a therapy dog can significantly reduce anxiety and stress, making it easier for clients—especially children and teens—to open up and engage in their therapy.
Certified by the American Kennel Club with the Canine Good Citizen certificate and the Therapy Dog certification, Mochi and August undergo regular training and assessments to ensure appropriate behavior and effectiveness in a clinical setting. They are adept at recognizing emotional cues, often providing gentle nudges or cuddles when clients need reassurance or support.
In addition to individual therapy sessions, Mochi and August participate in group activities, fostering connections among clients and promoting a sense of community. Through playful interactions and soothing presence, they help clients build trust, enhance social skills, and experience joy during their healing journey.
Overall, Mochi and August are not just pets but an integral part of our therapeutic team, enriching the lives of those we serve and reinforcing our commitment to holistic mental health care.
